What Makes Natracare MADE SAFE?

Since the 80s, Natracare has been campaigning for and creating products that are designed to be safe for the most sensitive skin and intimate areas of your body. Working with MADE SAFE and adding its certification in 2017 to our products is an extra way for you to be confident in our commitment to keep toxic ingredients out of our products, showing you that our products are ones you can trust.

MADE SAFE is a nonprofit organization that certifies non-toxic products to be safe for consumers and the environment. Their goal is to simplify the route to buying products without harmful or unnecessary chemicals for shoppers with a clear list of what substances to avoid. MADE SAFE recently launched their MADE SAFE Banned List: a list of over 6,500 substances that are known or suspected to be toxic and found in commonly bought and used consumer goods.

Why is Natracare MADE SAFE certified?

We believe that personal care products – whether that’s period products, baby wipes, or incontinence pads – should be safe for you to use, avoid the use of unnecessary chemicals, and are not damaging to the environment after use. That’s exactly why our products are MADE SAFE certified.

Becoming certified means that our products go through a rigorous process to ensure that they do not contain any ingredients that are known or suspected to be toxic or damaging to health. MADE SAFE products are screened for the 6,500+ ingredients in the banned list, and then each ingredient is tested against further restrictions as well as how the ingredients interact with each other.

What ingredients does the Banned List include?

The MADE SAFE Banned List of over 6,500 ingredients includes known:

  • Behavioural, developmental, and reproductive toxins
  • Carcinogens & probable carcinogens
  • Heavy metals
  • Endocrine disrupting compounds
  • High risk pesticides
  • Endangered plants
  • Persistent pollutants
  • Chemicals of concern due to other toxicity endpoints

Among many other ingredients that are known or believed to be harmful. MADE SAFE’s ban list takes an extra step of caution of all ingredients that are known or believed to be harmful. In comparison to the EU list of restricted substances, the MADE SAFE list bans almost five times more. And in comparison to US Food and Drug Administration and Environmental Protection Agency list of restricted substances, MADE SAFE restricts well over 6,000 more.

MADE SAFE’s screening is one of the most rigorous third-party tests for products on the market today. In initial screening, if none of the banned ingredients are found, the product will continue to further review before being awarded the certification. If the products are found to contain any of the banned ingredients, they cannot continue to become MADE SAFE certified. Learn more about the process here.

The MADE SAFE Banned List is backed by science from government agencies, scientific organisations, and subject-area experts. It has been compiled with input from other relevant authoritative lists from around the world.

Thank you so much for this article! I recently switch to Natracare after my favorite, Honest organic, discontinued their organic tampons, and I couldn’t be happier with this company! Recently discoverwd that titanium oxide has a lot to do with TSS and came here very fearful that you guys would not be very hard on your ingredients, boy was I wrong! Thank you endlessly for all you do, sincerely, a consumer who cannot do it for themselves!

As much as we want to believe that Natracare products are completely safe, there are other brands that also make this claim, but have titanium dioxide listed in the ingredients. Natracare does not specifically have an ingredient list on their pad packages.

Natracare has a full ingredients list printed on all on our products’ packs – we aim to be completely transparent and clear.
