Why provide free period products?
We’ve been switching up the period and personal care industry since 1989, and we pride ourselves on our history of empowerment and ethical responsibility. Our products have been at the forefront of the movement, ensuring menstruators have access to better choices for their body and the planet.
In schools
49% of individuals have missed a whole day of school or work due to their period
By offering environmentally friendly period products in schools for free, you improve overall productivity and attendance whilst helping to combat period poverty, ensuring no young person is caught short by their period.
In the workplace
2 in 5 are so nervous to discuss their periods with colleagues that they have worn a tampon longer than medically advised
Supplying your workplace with eco-friendly period products for free can protect the health of employees and encourage open conversation, all whilst championing sustainability.
For customers
66% of women prefer to spend money at a business that provides free period products over one that does not.
Creating space for free, environmentally friendly period products can enhance customer loyalty and satisfaction.
What our customers say
A project to provide free period products was launched in the School of Life Sciences in December 2019. Since that date the Period Dignity Project (PDP) has distributed a total of 96,394 disposable Natracare pads and tampons on campus. Since February 2024, 37,720 of those items have been dispensed via 15 Natracare dispensers. This is a joint project between the School of Life Sciences and the Estates team, working with local volunteers in schools, divisions and cleaning teams to monitor use and restock as needed.
As a result, in the past year alone an estimated 12,000+ menstruators (female, non-binary and trans staff and students) have had wider access to free period products at the University of Sussex. The dispensers are easy to stock and simple to install and help reduce volunteer time stocking individual baskets. A winning combination all round.
