Table tennis
At age 17, Taunton’s table tennis star, Kate Steward produced some quality performances for England.
In April 2003, in The Junior Six Nations Tournament held at The Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff, she played at number one in a victorious England's side. In a round robin England secured 5-0 victories over Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Guernsey and The Isle of Man.
Kate had recently made significant changes to both her playing style and racquet coverings, and therefore did exceptionally well to reach the final of the individual event. Despite these changes to her game Kate made a leap up to number 72 in the World Junior rankings and 421 in the Senior World rankings.
Excellent news for Kate was the securing of major sponsorship from Natracare. She was receiving only very small amounts of funding from the lottery fund. Natracare was delighted to be of assistance to Kate and hoped the association would be one that enabled Kate to achieve great things.
Natracare’s ethos is to help support young aspiring females in sport and adventure as we recognise the financial difficulties encountered by developing talent due to the significant lack of funding from major sponsors for sport not attracting extensive media and television coverage.
